How to use the JPG to PNG converter
- Add the JPG or JPEG pictures, or drag the whole folder from your camera roll export.
- Under More settings, scale them by percentage or to a width if the originals are larger than your project needs.
- Press Convert to PNG and save each picture, or take the full set as one ZIP.
A stable master for thumbnail work
Building a video thumbnail usually means several rounds: crop the still, add a title, adjust colours, export, then go back and change the wording. Each round saved as JPG stacks another layer of compression noise around text and edges. A PNG holds the picture losslessly, so the tenth save looks the same as the first.
The conversion itself does not undo anything. Blocky patches or smeared detail already present in the JPG carry over unchanged, so start from the highest quality JPG you have.
Size, rotation and metadata
Expect the PNG to be several times heavier than the JPG for camera photos, because every decoded pixel is now stored exactly. OxiPNG recompresses each file after encoding, which trims it as far as lossless storage allows without touching the image.
Phone pictures that rely on an orientation flag are turned upright before saving. Camera, date and GPS fields from the JPG are left out of the new file.
Questions
Will the background turn transparent?
No. JPG has no alpha channel, so the PNG comes out fully opaque. Cutting out a background is a separate editing job.
Should I convert back to JPG at the end?
For sharing, yes. Edit on the PNG, then export one final JPG with the PNG to JPG tool when the image is finished.
Is there a limit on how many I add?
No count limit. Pictures are handled a few at a time by your browser and the ZIP button gathers them all.
