Convert TIFF to PNG

Both TIFF and PNG are lossless, but only PNG opens in chat apps, web pages, video editors and most document tools. Converting gives you an exact copy of the first image in the TIFF in a format everyone can view, decoded right here in the tab.

How to use the TIFF to PNG converter

  1. Choose the TIFF files you want to open elsewhere.
  2. Scale them under More settings if they are larger than needed.
  3. Convert and save the PNGs, or download all of them zipped.

Exact copies for editing and overlays

Graphics exported from design software as TIFF often carry transparency. That alpha channel is moved into the PNG, so a title graphic or cut-out can be layered over footage in an editor that refuses TIFF.

Technical drawings, scanned maps and interface captures stay pixel-exact, which matters when small lines and numbers must remain readable.

What changes in the process

A multi-page file contributes its first page and nothing else. Deeper bit depths become 8 bits per channel, colour is converted to standard RGB, and Photoshop layers stored inside the TIFF arrive as one flattened picture.

Against an uncompressed TIFF the PNG is usually much smaller. Against one already saved with LZW or Deflate, the two sizes can end up close.

PNG or JPG?

Pick PNG when the copy must stay identical to the master. For photographs headed to social posts or email, a JPG at quality 90 is often a fifth of the PNG’s size.

Unsure which to keep? Convert a few files both ways and compare the sizes shown under each result. The before and after figures sit right under every file in the list, so the choice takes seconds.

Questions

Are LZW-compressed TIFFs supported?

Yes, along with uncompressed, Deflate and PackBits files.

Does the TIFF leave my computer?

No. The decoder is a script that runs in your browser.

Is the PNG compressed further?

Yes. OxiPNG recompresses it after encoding, keeping every pixel and trimming the bytes.

Can I convert a folder of scans?

Yes. Drag in the folder; each TIFF is decoded on your computer and the results can be saved as one ZIP. There is no file count limit.
